Each new vintage is like opening a blank notebook. I welcome the 2023 vintage with special excitement: it has been a year of nuances, with a mild spring and a dry but balanced summer that allowed the grapes to ripen calmly, without haste, almost to the beat of their own pulse.
For me, 2023 also signifies a personal milestone: it is the first year of vinification of the plot I acquired in Labastida, planted in 1950. It is a place with a unique soul, which I wanted to name after my children, Vera and Javier: Veravier. I feel each bunch that is born there as a legacy that they, one day, will also be able to make their own.
The wines we are now presenting have something that excites me: vibrant freshness, polished tannins, a very honest expression of what they are. Among them, La Bendecida and Buradón reveal themselves with a surprising floral delicacy, sustained on a mineral background that reminds me, every time I taste it, of the soil from which it comes.
I experienced this year as an exercise in listening. I didn’t want to impose anything, but rather to accompany. And the truth is that the wines spoke for themselves.
